Metal Gear Solid Master Collection Actually Has 5 Games Instead of 3

Nov 12, 2023Nov 12, 2023

The recently-revealed Metal Gear Solid Master Collection Vol. 1 features five games instead of just the three that were announced.

Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 1 will actually consist of five games instead of the three that were previously confirmed. The Metal Gear franchise has been dormant since the failure that was Metal Gear Survive, but Konami is looking to bring it back in a big way. Konami was a significant presence at the recent PlayStation Showcase, where it used the opportunity to announce the comeback for the Metal Gear Solid franchise.

The Metal Gear Solid franchise is first making a comeback through Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater, a full-blown Metal Gear Solid 3 remake that's in development for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X. It's unclear exactly how long Metal Gear Solid fans will have to wait for Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater, but they will be able to revisit some other classic Metal Gear Solid series games in the meantime.

Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 1 was announced alongside Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater at the PlayStation Showcase. At first, it was only confirmed that the Metal Gear Solid collection would feature the original Metal Gear Solid game, Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty, and Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater. However, it's now been confirmed through the collection's PlayStation Store listing that the original Metal Gear game and Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake will also be part of the package. This means that Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 1 will effectively feature five games instead of three.

Metal Gear Solid fans will no doubt appreciate the opportunity to revisit the classic games on modern platforms, though Konami has yet to clarify exactly which platforms the collection will be available on. While it's been suggested that Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 1 will be a multi-platform release, the only console we know it's coming to for sure is PlayStation 5. Hopefully more information on that front comes sooner rather than later.

While some Metal Gear fans may have preferred a brand-new entry in the series, others will be happy to see that Konami is finally bringing the Metal Gear Solid franchise back through this collection and the Snake Eater remake. If these games are popular enough, perhaps they could lead to a proper renaissance for Metal Gear that sees a completely original game produced eventually, though some may be concerned about what such a project might look like without the involvement of franchise creator Hideo Kojima.
